A Little Bit of Common Sense…

…can go a long way!

Recruiting Southern Style is the business blog from a blogger that I follow. Today she posted about downsizing, something that we’re seeing happen more and more because of the current state of our economy.

Personally, it’s one of the the things I find most annoying about this current downturn in the pace of business.

Yes, I wrote “annoying”.

I wrote “annoying” because many, many times it’s not about a staunch need to cut workforce at all – it’s generally the result of management refusing to take a hard look at other areas of their business.

Yes, I will concede that payroll is a major (if not the largest) area of expense for businesses, but cutting people is often one of the quickest ways to hurt any pace or growth of business you’re benefiting from.

This is what struck me most about “Recruiting Southern Style”‘s post – and why I felt the need to re-post:

“I hope these trying times find you safe and gainfully employed by companies that will take a deep breath, look at the situations, and do what they can to cut cost rather than people. Things like voluntary attrition, reduced spending from the top down. But if not, I hope you find solace in knowing being down sized is now longer seen as reflection on you but rather more of a reflection on poor management.“Read Recruiting’s full post here.

    Great article, thank you.

It is HARD to do everything you can to keep people employed. I am just thankful that some people chose their own paths. (Leaving, going back to school, throwing a conniption and being let go). I am also SUPER thankful for someone wanting that lease. I can’t believe it still!
